Oklahoma History They Can Actually Experience.
Step out of the classroom and into Oklahoma's territorial past.
Students explore historic buildings, try pioneer-era skills,
handle period objects, and discover what everyday life was
really like.
A field trip to Harn Homestead combines historic spaces,
storytelling, movement and hands-on activities to turn
Oklahoma history into something students can see, touch
and remember.
Step inside a fully furnished territorial-era farmhouse.
Students handle period toys and kitchen utensils while
comparing life then with life today.
Twist rope, grind field corn, gather eggs, practice
lassoing, play horseshoes and even tackle laundry
the old-fashioned way.
Take a seat inside a one-room schoolhouse, write on
slates, practice penmanship, read from a McGuffey
Reader and play historic playground games.
Explore the Victorian home of William and Alice Harn
and discover how their family became part of
Oklahoma City's early story.
See, smell and identify herbs while learning how
territorial families used plants for cooking,
cleaning and everyday life.
Guided interpretation, historic spaces and active
participation help students connect classroom lessons
with real places, objects and experiences.
Field trips typically begin at 10:00 AM and
conclude at 1:30 PM, including a 30-minute
picnic lunch. Timing can often be adjusted for
bus arrivals and school schedules.
Admission is $10 per student and $5 per adult
sponsor. A minimum of 25 paying students is
required for independent field trip reservations.
Bring a packed lunch, comfortable shoes and
clothing appropriate for the day's weather.
Much of the experience takes place outdoors.
Picnic blankets are welcome.
Harn staff adjust activities as needed for
inclement or severe weather. Outdoor rotations
and picnic lunch can be moved indoors or replaced
with indoor programming.

Harn Homestead offers a dedicated Homeschool Day once each month, giving homeschool students the full hands-on field trip experience without a minimum number of paying students.
Have a larger homeschool group? Groups with 25 or more paying students may book an independent field trip on another available date.
